FSD Academy specialise in using football as a platform for re-engagement in all areas of life. Founded by Matthew Piper, former Leicester City player and current BBC radio commentator and supported by Emile Heskey, former Leicester City and England player, our Alternative Provision for Y7 to Y11 provides a unique mix of sport, education and life skills. FSD Academy is a ‘family’ environment where politeness, respect and positive thinking lead our core values.

Students have the chance to:

  • Complete a recognised Sports Leaders qualification alongside our own 'Player Performance Profile' and Life Skills pack.
  • Work with experienced staff and older student mentors who will connect with them, and believe in them, irrespective of their background, character, circumstances or current abilities.
  • Enjoy an active programme of football and sports related training, games and challenges, balanced with life skills activities, discussion and education.
  • Use extensive outdoor sports fields, with football goals and equipment.
  • Access on-site gym, spacious clubhouse and our own mobile classrooms.
  • Be part of an environment where former Leicester City player and current BBC Radio commentator, Matthew Piper is regularly present and pro-active with students.
  • Meet role models such as Emile Heskey and other professional / former professional players.
  • Develop increased social skills, engagement, confidence, self-esteem and positive thinking.
  • Wear FSD Academy branded training / match kit and feel a sense of belonging.
  • Benefit from lunch and refreshments, all included within package.
  • Discover a pathway into further education on our BTEC sport diploma.

We pride ourselves in offering a programme with enough structure for progress and enough flexibility to ensure engagement and connection. We usually welcome students from 1 to 3 days per week. The FSD Academy Alternative Provision is founded upon the success of our further education programme and environment, which having ran since 2017 has some impressive highlights.

These include:

  • An average attendance of 93% vs 60% at secondary school.
  • 100% pass rate in BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Sport
  • 100% pass rate in BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Sport
  • 11 of last year’s 27 leavers progressing to universities including Loughborough, Derby, Nottingham and Birmingham (many of these students had very few or no GCSE’s on arrival).

We have been delighted to welcome previous Alternative Provision students onto our current BTEC Diploma programme this year and this is a genuine pathway for many more students moving forward.  If you have any further questions about our programme please don’t hesitate to contact us on 07949 217 123 or office@fsdacademy.com.
