FSD Academy - What We Do

FSD is a unique education and sports academy located just 40 miles south of St. George's Park (England's head training centre) in the heart of Leicester; one of the most vibrant cities in the UK. With football training, match and classroom facilities all on site, this central UK base allows us a wide range of opportunities to explore through our bespoke education and sports programmes. Daily football training and academic sports studies are complemented with high level league football, at home and across the region. Fixtures are against teams that will test and challenge the players to help them progress to their potential:

Our prime aim is to support all trainees and help them to map out their future by maximising their skills, preparing them for any set backs along the way and driving them forward to be the best that they can be.

The FSD Academy staff comprise of former professional footballers, current professional footballers and professional 1-2-1 skilled coaches who can give your child the best possible chance of building a career in football or the wider sports and leisure industry and instil those important life skills that are so valuable for young adolescents transitioning into adulthood.

Since launching the academy we have also made other sports and fitness opportunities available to students where possible and have provided in house or signposted opportunities, such as mixed martial arts, fitness and boxing coaching. One of our students undertook an intensive training programme with Andre Winner (former professional UFC fighter) and went on to win his first kickboxing fight in front of 300 spectators, making valuable progress with self-discipline, determination and resilience along the way.

We stand side by side with our main education providers, SCL who are experts in the field of combining elite coaching programmes with a related academic curriculum. We have direct contacts with the two main Leicester universities and local higher education colleges which helps us to prepare all our trainees for the next step in life. We have close ties with the largest professional football clubs in the area and also have direct links to clubs in surrounding regions, which allows us to refer special talent whenever it arrives or develops at our training hub.

The Transition from Youth to Men's Football (Semi-Pro/Professional)

At FSD Academy we give players the advice and create opportunities to give boys a second/third chance to get into the game whether they've been released, never had a trial or simply never been thought of as good enough to make that step up from grassroots football to pro academy level." We believe football development and the modern game has come a long way but there has been more and more examples of old values becoming hard to come by in modern day footballers.

We want to create hard working players who are creative, technically sound, who understand different styles of play, dominate in 1 on 1 situations and understand the difference between non league and pro academy pathways to becoming a professional footballer.

Our own educational program (FSD life skills) tries to challenge all of our trainees to explore and build qualities they never thought they had. Through inspirational guest speakers and non football skilled work shops delivered by professional individuals. Our life skills program helps to prepare all of our trainees for the big wide world of adulthood. We cover everything from: living alone, future planing, job interviews, valued work experience opportunities (paid and voluntary), power of self discipline, enrichment classes, understanding emotional intelligence, drugs/gambling and abuse workshops, managing money, cooking and many more areas.

The FSD Academy is proud to have secured valued links in to local primary schools where our trainees plan, create and deliver football, fitness and multi-sports sessions to the children and start to build those very valuable interactive social skills needed in todays society. They also deliver sports sessions to the local community, building important ties and relationships, all on a voluntary basis.

Some of our supremely talented trainees/students will be solely focused on joining our programme to become a professional footballer and that’s fine (we will endeavour to support and develop them to achieve those aspirations.) But some of our trainees might have a passion for football/sport but are self aware and understand they don’t have the ability to ever become a top flight footballer and that’s also fine; we welcome all abilities at the FSD Academy, for these boys the programme will help them become the very best footballer they can become, along with providing an excellent education and installing important life skills and confidence to go out and achieve something.

Other boy’s may be at a cross-roads in life… Just finished school, not really knowing what they want to do and we feel this is a important time and decision process for them. At our academy they will learn discipline, self awareness, team work, goal setting and many more overlooked everyday skills that will hold them in good stead to go on and achieve something and give them a clearer vision on where their future may lie.
